Cowboys’ Sale Is Reported to Be Near
Denver billionaire Marvin Davis is close to a deal to buy the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League and Texas Stadium Corp. from financially troubled Cowboy majority owner H.R. (Bum) Bright, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Davis’ son, John, has been in Dallas for several days to work out a deal for control of the Cowboys and Texas Stadium, according to an unidentified source the newspaper quoted.
The source said the sellers of the franchise, of which Bright owns 40%, will make a large profit if the deal goes through as negotiated. Attorneys are drawing up the papers to purchase the interest of Bright and his limited partners, the source said.
A spokeswoman for Davis in New York said there would be no comment on the reports. “We are calling them rumors,†said Maureen Milano.
