The City Council recently approved a program that will offer homeowners in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods grants of up to $2,000 for exterior home improvements.
The program, to be funded by federal Community Development Block Grants and the Redevelopment Agency, will enable qualified homeowners to pay for improvements such as roofing, installing garage doors, fencing and weatherstripping.
The grants will be administered through the Neighborhood Preservation program at an expected cost of $40,000 a year, according to a staff report.
