Tennis Roundup : Kriek Unhappy With Officials and Upset by Duncan, 7-6, 7-6

Unheralded Lawson Duncan upset Johan Kriek, 7-6, 7-6, Wednesday in the second round of the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships at Isle of Palms, S.C.

“There’s nothing you can do when you get ripped off in a match like that,� said the fifth-seeded Kriek, who criticized the umpire and linesmen. “I have not been ripped off like that in a while.�

In other matches, top-seeded Andre Agassi beat Carlos DiLaura, 6-2, 6-2; fourth-seeded Jay Berger outlasted Sammy Giammalva, 6-7, 7-5, 6-0; and Richey Reneberg downed Marty Davis, 6-1, 6-4.

Top-seeded Boris Becker overcame Mansour Bahrami of Iran, 6-3, 6-3, and advanced to the third round of the $602,500 German Open at Hamburg, West Germany.

Third-seeded Helena Sukova of Czechoslovakia came from behind to beat Barbara Gerken, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, in the $300,000 Toray Pan Pacific Open for women at Tokyo.

In other matches, fourth-seeded Natalia Zvereva of the Soviet Union turned back Ann Henricksson, 6-3, 7-5; No. 5 Larisa Savchenko of the Soviet Union eliminated Lisa Bonder, 6-1, 7-5; Etsuko Inoue of Japan defeated Dianne Balestrat of Australia, 6-1, 6-2; Leila Meskhi of the Soviet Union beat Brenda Schultz of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-1; and Patty Fendick eliminated Nana Miyagi of Japan, 6-2, 6-3.
