USAir Group Inc. reported a loss of $18.8 million for the first quarter, which it blamed on rising costs at one of its subsidiaries and a decline in passenger traffic at another. The $18.8-million loss contrasted with a net profit of $23.5 million in the first quarter of 1987. The loss occurred despite a more than doubling of revenue to $1.2 billion.
