Shane Haney, a freshman at Winder-Barrow High School in Winder, Ga., high jumped 7 feet to become the first 9th-grader in the nation to clear that height. According to Track and Field News, the record for a prep freshman was 6-11, set in 1986 by Randy McCoy of Monroe Area, Ga.
