MOSCOW — A U.S. Air Force plane has delivered 45 tons of American monitoring equipment for use at the Soviet nuclear test site in Semipalatinsk, Central Asia, the official Tass news agency reported Wednesday.
Tass said the C-5B jet transport landed at a civilian airfield in Semipalatinsk on Monday and left the Soviet Union the same day.
The monitoring equipment will be used in a joint experiment to check the yields of underground nuclear blasts.
Tass said Soviet scientists now at the U.S. test range in Nevada had brought seismic recording equipment with them for the experiment, being conducted within the framework of superpower talks on limiting nuclear testing.
