‘Visa U.S.A.’
Columbia-Cuba, 1987, 88 minutes, 10:20 p.m. A delightfully romantic and bittersweet coming-of-age story told with grace and compassion by writer Martha Elena Restrepo and director Lisandro Duque. Armando Gutierrez is wonderful as a handsome, naive (and very poor) small-town youth whose unrealistic dreams of emigrating to the United States are further complicated by his love for a pretty girl with conservative middle-class parents. Slight but charming.
