Local News in Brief : Gallstone Study Planned

Doctors at three hospitals across the country, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, are getting $1-million machines for a study of a shock wave method of treating patients suffering from gallstones.
University Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa, and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta also will take part in the study of shock wave gallstone lithotripsy with a machine developed in West Germany. The machine, called a gallstone lithotripter, is a non-surgical treatment that uses shock waves to shatter gallstones.
