Manville Corp., the forest products company in bankruptcy, said its first-quarter income dropped to $35.7 million from $42.9 million. However, last year’s period included a $9-million gain from the sale of two real estate ventures. The Denver-based firm said sales rose 6% to $502.2 million from $475 million. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 1982 because of massive asbestos-injury lawsuits. It is still in bankruptcy because of appeals filed against a reorganization plan.
