‘The Tale of Ruby Rose’
Australia, 1987, 101 minutes , 10:15 p.m. Set in Tasmania in 1933, the film details the bleak lives and vain odyssey of backwoods trappers. Ruby, her husband and adopted son eke out a spare existence both literally and dramatically. Writer-director Roger Scholes establishes their insularity to a degree beyond the call of duty and appends it with a confounding journey for Ruby back to her slightly more civilized roots.
