St. Bernard Pitcher Melendez Stifles Crespi and Wallops Two Homers in 6-0 Triumph
Dan Melendez pitched a six-hit shutout and hit two home runs Thursday to power St. Bernard past visiting Crespi, 6-0, in a non-league baseball game.
Melendez hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added his sixth home run of the season, another two-run shot, in the third as the Vikings improved their record to 9-3.
The junior left-hander struck out four and walked one to gain his third victory against one defeat.
Eric Strand homered and Royce Clayton hit an RBI double to account for St. Bernard’s other runs.
The Vikings will resume Camino Real League action at 11 a.m. Saturday when they play host to Serra. St. Bernard is tied with Cantwell and St. Monica for first place, all with 3-0 marks.
