‘Beethoven or Bust’ Now No. 1

“Beethoven or Bust,” a collection of synthesized Beethoven compositions by Anaheim electronic musician Don Dorsey, takes over the top spot on the classical crossover albums chart in the April 16 issue of Billboard magazine. The album, which entered the chart March 5 at No. 7, knocks “By Request . . . the Best of John Williams” from the No. 1 position.
“We’re calling it the bust of John Williams,” joked Dorsey, who missed Williams’ concert at the Orange County Performing Arts Center so he could see Sting in Santa Barbara. Billboardpredicted that “Beethoven or Bust” would have a tough go, Dorsey said, but “people are just eating it up.”
Dorsey’s first album, “Bachbusters,” was on top of Billboard’s now-defunct classical compact discs chart for 14 weeks in 1986.
