Oral Roberts Asks $8 Million More
TULSA, Okla. — Television evangelist Oral Roberts has announced another $8-million fund drive but made no mention of last year’s warning that God would call him home if a similar fund-raising target was not met.
Roberts, addressing about 100 medical school students at Oral Roberts University via satellite from Anaheim, Calif., said the $8 million is needed to support the school’s medical missionary scholarship program for the coming school year.
Roberts announced in January, 1987, that God would call him home--insinuating that Roberts would die--unless $8 million was raised by the end of March to finance scholarships for students enrolled in the medical school. A $1.3-million donation from a greyhound race track owner helped Roberts meet his goal.
