AMSTERDAM — Police will evacuate about 7,000 residents from the center of Rotterdam today to allow experts to tackle an unexploded British World War II bomb.
The residents who live within 300 yards of the bomb must leave their homes and a further 14,000 will have to stay indoors, Rotterdam council spokesman Ton Michielse said Saturday.
The 1,000-pound bomb, dropped by the British air force in a November, 1944, raid, was found last November and lies, partly uncovered, in a back garden. Experts say it is in perfect condition.
