Chinese Urge 5-Day Week

BEIJING — Chinese labor experts have called for a 5-day workweek to raise productivity, the Economic Daily said Tuesday. China’s state employees are supposed to work 5 1/2 to 6 days, but idleness and absenteeism are major problems. The paper said the State Science and Technology Commission called for a gradual shift to a 5-day week.
