Softball : Kennedy Slips Past Woodbridge, 1-0

Freshman pitcher Cheryl Longeway gave up just three hits in Kennedy High School’s 1-0 victory over Woodbridge Wednesday in the second round of the Cypress softball tournament.
Longeway (2-1) struck out eight for Kennedy (3-2). Kennedy’s only run was scored in the sixth inning when a bunt was turned into a run on two errors. Woodbridge pitcher Tiffany Boyd struck out 10 and gave up 2 hits. It was the first time the Warriors had played against their former coach, Sue Hall, now the coach at Kennedy.
Sonora 4, Anaheim 2--Sophomore pitcher Lacie Mounger gave up only three hits but suffered her first loss for host Anaheim (2-1). Sonora scored three runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
St. Margaret’s 30, Newport Christian 9--St. Margaret’s (2-3) used 22 hits and 10 walks to come back from a 5-2 first-inning deficit and defeat Newport Christian (0-1) at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa. Jennifer Curtis (1-1) got the win for St. Margaret’s. Wendy Tacquard went 4 for 5 with 4 RBIs and scored 6 runs, and Katie Ruh went 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored. St. Margaret’s scored four runs in the third inning, 13 runs in the fourth inning and 11 in the fifth inning.
