Actress Ellen Barkin on the lack of good scripts and this year’s Academy Award nominations: “I could barely finish reading ‘Fatal Attraction’ when it was sent to me. Sally Kirkland and Marcello Mastroianni are the only two nominated for acting this year--the others are because of their celebrity status, or because the movie made a lot of money. From a feminist standpoint, ‘Broadcast News’ is a really dangerous, misogynist movie. It reinforces the myth that women can have a man or a career, not both: This is a film telling us to ‘Get back in the kitchen.’ ”
