Local News in Brief : Drunk Driver Gets 4 Years

A motorist who rammed his car into a police motorcycle officer while under the influence of alcohol and barbiturates was sentenced in Superior Court on Monday to four years in state prison.

Robert Clark, 41, of Los Angeles, had been charged with attempted murder in the case but was allowed by the district attorney’s office to plead guilty in August to lesser charges of assault on a police officer and driving under the influence.

Clark struck the motorcycle driven by Los Angeles Police Officer Vincent Vicarri in January, 1987, in the Silver Lake area. Vicarri was knocked off the motorcycle but managed to fire several shots at Clark’s fleeing vehicle, which stopped about a block away. Clark was uninjured.
