Lakers Take Win Streak to Seattle

SEATTLE — Are the Lakers going to make a run at their record 1971-72 season when they were 69-13? They will start to find out soon, as they take their 45-9 record, their 10-game winning streak and their 34 wins in the last 37 games onto the road, starting with tonight’s 7:30 game (Channel 9, KLAC radio) against the SuperSonics.
After tonight’s game, the Lakers will return home Friday to face the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers have won their last seven road games. Their 19-6 road record is better than the home records of 13 teams.
But not the SuperSonics, who are 21-4 at home, but only 29-27 overall. Last season’s Western Conference finalists have been a mild disappointment. Coach Bernie Bickerstaff suggests that last season’s big playoff run raised expectations too high, pointing out that his roster is the second youngest in the National Basketball Assn. Only one starter, 29-year-old Alton Lister, is older than 26.
The Lakers’ first game here this season resulted in their worst loss (103-85). However, they returned a month ago to end the SuperSonics’ team-record 17-game home winning streak, 116-109.
