A Lomita man suspected of holding up more than 40 supermarkets across California since July, 1986, was arrested Tuesday in Harbor City, authorities said.
When arrested, William M. Toward, 52, was carrying a .38-caliber handgun and $900 in cash, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
Toward allegedly netted more than $100,000 during the string of heists, in which the thief presented notes to supermarket managers demanding all the cash in the safe, detectives said.
