Community College Baseball : Cypress Routs San Diego City in Tournament

Tim Churchill had two hits and four RBIs to lead Cypress College to a 15-4 victory over San Diego City in a second-round game of the College of the Desert Tournament Saturday.
Churchill is a sophomore transfer from Fullerton College and now has seven RBIs in two games.
Steve Gill and Doug Yates had two hits and two RBIs each for Cypress. Benny Gonzalez (1-0) pitched the first five innings for the victory. Cypress scored 11 runs in the top of the first on four hits, four walks, two errors and a hit batter.
In a nonconference game:
Rancho Santiago 15, Southwestern 4--Bobby Hamelin had two home runs, a double and four RBIs for the Dons in the season opener for both teams at Southwestern.
Hemelin is a sophomore transfer from UCLA. He was an All-Southern Section player at Irvine High School.
Mike Gonzales had a home run and three RBIs, and Willie Navarette gave up just one earned run in six innings to pick up the victory.
