Merck & Co.’s fourth-quarter profit jumped 35% to $232.4 million, helped by new products and a lower dollar. Profit rose 34% for the year to $906.4 million. Quarterly revenue rose to $1.39 billion from $1.15 billion; annual sales grew 23% to $5.1 billion. The world’s largest prescription drug firm, based in Rahway, N.J., said about one-fourth of the year’s sales growth was fueled by the cheaper dollar as well as acceptance of its hypertension drug Vasotec and Pepcid ulcer treatment.
