Public Stocks Studied as Drunk-Driving Penalty

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A legislator said that he may propose reinstating Colonial methods of punishment, such as the stocks, for drunk driving.
State Sen. Anthony Avallone of New Haven, a Democrat, said he was “toying with†the idea of allowing judges to sentence such offenders to a few hours of confinement in a public place.
