Local News in Brief : Newport Beach : Duck Released to Wild After Blowgun Attack
A wild mallard duck that had been pierced by two 7-inch steel darts, suspected of having have been fired from a blowgun in Upper Newport Bay, was released into the bay Sunday, apparently in good condition after treatment.
The darts were removed last week at All Creatures Care Cottage in Costa Mesa.
Meanwhile, personnel at the Newport Beach animal control office said three other migratory fowl, which earlier had been seen with darts protruding from them, had not been found.
