El Camino, Harbor Will Kick Off ’88 Football Season
- Share via
El Camino and Harbor colleges will open their 1988 football seasons when they go against each other on Sept. 10 at El Camino.
El Camino is coming off a perfect 11-0 year, including a 24-6 victory over Taft in the Pony Bowl. The JC Grid Wire named them national champions. Harbor struggled through a 2-7-1 year in 1987 under first year head coach Chris Ferragamo.
For the Warriors, who will compete in the new three-tiered Mission Conference, it will be the only non-conference game. For Harbor, it will be a chance to whip up some local interest.
The new Mission Conference has also changed its starting times for next season. Conference games will start at 7 p.m. The new kickoff time is a compromise between teams that wanted to start at 6 p.m.--to assure better media coverage of late-ending games--and those who wanted to maintain the traditional 7:30 starts.
