Rolling Hills 61, S. Torrance 43--In a Bay League game at South High, Rolling Hills maintained its perfect league record with a big second half. Going into Friday’s big game against Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills is 4-0 in league and 14-4 overall. Center John Hardy scored 29 points and had 12 rebounds as the Titans pulled away from a 25-25 half-time tie. South fell to 0-4 and 5-11.
Leuzinger 88, Centennial 69--Keith Pullen scored 29 points and Roger Thomas 17 as the Olympians ran their record to 11-4 for the season and 3-1 in the Pioneer League. The Olympians, in control all the way, led 37-24 at the half. Centennial pulled to within eight points in the third quarter but Leuzinger exploded for 33 points in the final quarter. Gene Lampkins scored 19 for Centennial, 0-4 in league.
Redondo 71, Miraleste 54--Redondo led at the half, 32-28, and pulled away from injury-plagued Miraleste in a Pioneer League game at Miraleste. Mike Houck led the Sea Hawks with 17 points and Tom Doyle added 15. Redondo improved to 2-2 in league and 8-9 overall. Miraleste is 1-3 and 4-12.
Fremont 70, Westchester 67--The Comets, perhaps looking ahead to Friday’s showdown at Crenshaw, squandered a 59-48 third-quarter lead and fell to 3-1 in the Central League. Sam Crawford scored 23 points for the Comets, 15-2 overall.
San Pedro 69, Gardena 66--The Pirates, trailing by a basket at half time, outscored Gardena, 27-18, in the third quarter, then held off the Mohicans in the fourth. The victory raised San Pedro to 4-0 in the Pacific League and set up a first-place showdown Friday with Manual Arts. Kevin Thompson scored 25 points for the winners, and guard Chris Davenport set things up with 9 assists and 7 steals. San Pedro is 7-6 overall. Gardena is 1-3 and 4-8.
Carson 48, Banning 47--The Colts maintained a slim edge all the way and built a three-point lead with 30 seconds left on two free throws by Greg Lindsey. Banning hit a basket with five seconds left to draw within one point, and Carson missed three free throws in the last two seconds, but Banning couldn’t take advantage. Carson improved to 2-2 in the Marine League and 12-4 overall. Banning is 0-4 and 6-9. Banning’s Keith Tieuel led all scorers with 17 points. Vincent Washington had 12 for Carson.
