Local News in Brief : Barge Sought in Harbor
- Share via
Ferry companies have recommended that a 300-foot-long barge be installed perpendicular to the Cabrillo Mole during the summer to improve docking facilities in Avalon’s harbor.
City Councilman Gilbert Saldana, who has been meeting with carrier representatives since September, reported the recommendation to the council this week. The companies--which carry passengers between Santa Catalina Island and San Pedro, Long Beach, Newport Beach and San Diego--said the project would relieve congested dock facilities in the harbor and allow them to expand their schedules.
The council unanimously authorized spending $5,400 to prepare requests for proposals and review proposals submitted.
