Guitarist Les Paul says he is considering donating memorabilia to create a museum in his Wisconsin hometown of Waukesha. Mayor Paul Vrakas said a museum was suggested by a member of a city ad-hoc committee considering “appropriate recognition of the contributions Paul has made to music history.” Paul, 72, is credited with inventing in the 1940s the solid-body electric guitar, multitrack recording and the electronic echo “delay” recording. “I’d love to see it happen. It would be great,” said Paul, who regularly returns to Waukesha to visit his mother, who turns 100 in March. Under the proposal, money would be raised to renovate the abandoned Park Theater, an old movie house, and perhaps rename it the “Les Paul Civic Theater.”
