Perhaps you can tell me just what was so special about the “Discreet Charm of Laurel & Hardy” (by Lawrence Christon, Jan. 10).
Did Laurel and Hardy ever use profanity? How about drug and sex innuendoes? When did they ever hinge a scene on the discovery of excrement in a swimming pool or mistaking a glass of urine for a glass of beer? Did they ever enlighten their audiences to the fun side of cruelty to animals?
Did they ever do one single mediocre celebrity impersonation? Out of a hundred of their movies, did a young girl ever lose her swimming suit top? Did these guys ever earn an R rating?
There is only one thing that these guys did that today’s comedians don’t do. They made people laugh.
