Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher urged immediate diplomatic action to resolve the Arab-Israeli dispute, calling for a settlement that offers hope to all the people of the region. She reiterated her belief that an international conference on peace in the Middle East would be the best framework for negotiations. She indirectly criticized the Reagan Administration for not supporting the conference idea with more enthusiasm. Thatcher also called for a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit before President Reagan travels to Moscow, possibly in late May or early June.
