California Firm to Help Design Beijing Hotel

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Thortec International Inc. said that its majority-owned subsidiary, URS International Inc., has signed an agreement to provide architectural and interior design for the 450-room, 5-star Hua Qiao Mansion Hotel to be built in Beijing.
The company’s Hong Kong office, URS/SKFP International Inc., was selected by Puolimatka International, a Finland-based construction firm, to participate in the $49-million hotel project. Puolimatka International will serve as design/building contractor and Sweden’s SARA Hotels will be operate the new hotel, which will be located on a site very close to Beijing’s Imperial Palace.
URS/SKFP will be assisted during the design phase by the Beijing Design Institute, the architectural, engineering and interior design arm of the Beijing Municipal Government.
