Use of Gym
I was appalled to read and see for myself Mayor Tom Bradley choosing to open four public park gymnasiums to house the homeless during the recent cold snap.
It was shocking to realize there are 16 available in the Harbor area, but my community, Wilmington, has only two. The one chosen, was the 60-year-old Banning Park Gymnasium. Fifty beds were set up.
The decision to house the homeless was done during Christmas school holidays. Children in this community are mostly from low-income families and consequently skiing, etc. cannot be enjoyed--just the basic basketball and basic gymnasium sports for their holiday fun.
The children of the community were denied use of this facility.
Next time let’s make a better choice.
