Local News in Brief : Anaheim : Carl Karcher Street Just Didn’t Pan Out

Representatives of hamburger magnate Carl Karcher have withdrawn a request to rename a city street Karcher Way after failing to work out a compromise with Alex Foods Inc., which has offices on the same street and had opposed the change.
Horst J. Schor, director of site development for Karcher Enterprises, said representatives of the two companies met once to discuss alternatives acceptable to both sides, but he declined to discuss the meeting or elaborate on why his company was withdrawing its request.
Schor did say, however, that Karcher Enterprises would not ask the City Council to consider other options that had been suggested, such as naming a park or a newly established street after Karcher.
The company first had suggested renaming a stretch of Romneya Drive, where its corporate headquarters are located, last June, but the City Council delayed action while gathering community input.
In a letter to city officials, Alex Morales Jr., owner of Alex Foods Inc., also located on Romneya, strongly opposed the name change, contending that it would hurt his company’s corporate identity and confuse visitors.
