ABC Schools : Search for Superintendent
In its effort to establish criteria for selecting a new superintendent, the ABC Unified School District Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting for 6 p.m. Jan. 7.
This will be the board’s second special meeting to discuss how to replace Kenneth L. Moffett, whose resignation is effective March 25.
The board is soliciting proposals from executive recruiting firms. On Tuesday, it heard presentations from Don Steele of the Pacific Institute in Seattle and Thomas Perez of Competency Technology Systems in Cardiff-by-the-Sea.
“We’re trying to find the best method to find a superintendent who will stay and be really effective,” board President Catherine Grant said.
Moffett announced his resignation from the 22,000-student district after four new board members were elected in November, including Dixie Primosch and Jim Weisenberg, who have asked for a grand jury investigation of ABC management last year.
Moffett said he had grown weary of the turmoil in the district during his 15 months as superintendent. He said the board should have a chance to select its own superintendent.
He has been rehired by the Lennox Elementary School District, where he was superintendent for 10 years.
