Political Action Chairman

Richard Gaylord, outgoing president of the Long Beach District Board of Realtors, has been elected chairman of the board’s political action committee for 1988. Other committee officers are Bob Johnson, vice chairman, and Barbara Shoag, secretary-treasurer. Members include Ted Tichy, Betty Suttie, Gene Hoffman, Terry Mulholland, Maurice Anderson, Barbara Moss, Betty Bennett, Ed Deal and Jack Warshauer. One of the committee’s purposes is to financially support local candidates for election to city, county and state political offices. Gaylord also is a former chairman of the Long Beach Planning Commission.

College Crowns Mr. Tartar

Darnell Hope, a 26-year-old business major at Compton Community College, was crowned Mr. Tartar at the college homecoming dance. Hope is a part-time dockworker, former president of the Extended Opportunity Program and Services Student Assn., a member of Phi Beta Lambda business fraternity and a former vice president of the campus chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Management.

Teacher of Medical Aides

Pat Regan, director of the medical assistant training program at Cerritos College, received proclamations of honor from the cities of Norwalk and Cerritos in observance of the recent National Medical Assistance Week. Regan graduated from Cerritos College and earned advanced degrees from the Omaha School of Vocational Nursing and in vocational education at California State University, Long Beach. She worked in a medical office before going into teaching at Cerritos College in 1969.

Director of Extended Aid

Jim Poston has been named director of the Extended Opportunity Program and Services office at Long Beach City College, a position he has held in an interim capacity for nine months. He directs the office that offers counseling, financial aid and tutoring to educationally, financially or socially disadvantaged students. Poston, a resident of Long Beach, replaces Bill Lopez, who returned to a counseling position at the college.

2 Get Cal Poly Scholarships

John S. Fish of Whittier, a senior in metallurgical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has won a $1,250 Alcoa Foundation scholarship for the 1987-88 academic year. Joseph R. Golden of Long Beach, a junior in engineering technology, won a $500 Roy N. Poage memorial scholarship at the same university.

New Business Club Officers

The Norwalk High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America has elected officers for the new year. They are Aldeen Chacon, president; Rosalie Hem, vice president; Ivette Carillo, secretary; and Monique Merino, treasurer.
