Local News in Brief : Airline Continues Search

A commuter airline continued its own search Monday of the seas off Hawaii for one of its planes, missing with eight people aboard, a day after the Coast Guard called off its hunt for the craft.

A lone Panorama Air Tours plane flew over the sea 50 miles southeast of Honolulu, near the island of Molokai, where a Panorama twin-engine Piper Chieftain disappeared from radar last Wednesday. The passengers included three members of a Sherman Oaks family.

Panorama President Paul Risher said after the Coast Guard called off its effort Sunday, following an intensive three-day search, that the airline would carry on by itself.

Risher also offered free aviation fuel for any Civil Air Patrol pilots willing to join the search.
