A Sepulveda man was killed and his wife and brother were injured early Sunday when their car swerved off the Golden State Freeway in Burbank and struck a tree, the California Highway Patrol said.
The car’s driver, Quang Luu Nguyen, 32, apparently fell asleep as he was heading north on the freeway, CHP Officer Charlotte Foley said. The car veered to the right and went off the road just south of Cohasset Street about 4:15 a.m.
Nguyen died of head injuries at the scene, Foley said.
His wife, Lisa, 25, suffered moderate injuries, Foley said. She was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, then transferred to Kaiser Permanente hospital in Panorama City. Kaiser nursing supervisor Joan Geary said she could provide no information about the patient.
Nguyen’s brother, Tim, 24, suffered major injuries in the accident and was in stable condition at St. Joseph Medical Center, Foley said.
Authorities do not know how fast the car was traveling at the time of the accident, she said.
