Dwight Gooden and Ron Darling, the New York Mets’ top two starting pitchers, will be asked to take six-figure pay cuts in the team’s first formal contract proposals.
Under the Mets’ offers, Gooden’s salary would be trimmed 10% from $1.5 million, and Darling would be cut 20% from the $1.05 million he won under salary arbitration.
