DETROIT — General Motors Corp. will indefinitely lay off 2,025 employees Jan. 25 at plants in Pontiac, Mich., and Lakewood, Ga., to help cut excess inventory, a spokeswoman said today.
The layoffs are in addition to previously announced production cuts. GM will lay off 425 workers at its Pontiac Fiero plant and the entire second shift of 1,600 workers at its Lakewood assembly plant in Georgia, she said. The 3,700-worker plant produces the Chevrolet Caprice sedan, and Chevrolet, Pontiac and Buick station wagons.
