Boy, 4, Found Stabbed After His Mother Telephones ‘700 Club’
A mother who called a TV show to say she killed her 4-year-old son was arrested after his stabbed body was found in the bedroom and five dogs were found drowned in a bathtub in Lancaster today.
“There’s not much to say at this point in the investigation. It’s a very tragic thing,†said a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detective who asked that his name not be used.
Andra Jeane Reynolds, 29, is being held without bail in the death of her son, Richard, who was stabbed repeatedly in the upper torso, Deputy Van Mosely said.
About 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a caller from the “700 Club†religious TV program reported that the woman “had called the ‘700 Club’ hot line and said she’d just killed her son,†Mosely said.
A short time later, deputies found Richard in the bedroom and two family dogs and three puppies drowned in the bathtub of the family’s apartment, Mosely said.
Deputies from the Antelope Valley sheriff’s station had visited the apartment earlier in the day to check out a call from a family member who expressed concern for the boy’s safety, investigators said. The name of the family member wasn’t disclosed.
The deputies had found the mother “calm and cooperative,†and the child playing outside, so they left, Mosely said.
No motive for the killing is known, Mosely said.
