Kenya said dozens of Ugandan troops backed by two tanks entered its territory near the border town of Busia. In a gun battle with police, two soldiers were killed and the rest were driven back across the border, Kenya said. Witnesses, however, said four or five Ugandans died in the four-hour battle. Kenya said the Ugandan soldiers, unprovoked, began the shooting. There was no official comment from the Ugandan government in Kampala. The outbreak of fighting follows a Kenyan protest last Friday over a string of border incidents between the East African neighbors.
