Women received more than half of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees awarded by California’s public universities from 1983 through 1986, a state commission reported. During that period, women received 52% of all bachelor’s degrees and 53% of all master’s degrees awarded by the University of California and the California State University systems, according to the study conducted by the California Postsecondary Education Commission. Women earned 34% of all doctoral degrees, increasing their share by 59% over the past 10 years.
