Egypt allowed the Palestine Liberation Organization to reopen its Cairo office after a seven-month closure. Egyptian and PLO officials hugged and embraced each other amid shouts of “Long live Palestine, Free and Arab!†as the PLO’s flag was raised over the suburban Cairo office. Egypt had shut down the office--along with five or six auxiliary offices--for the second time April 27 to protest a resolution by the Palestine National Council linking relations with Egypt to abrogation of the Camp David peace accords with Israel. The reopening of the office had been expected since PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat met with President Hosni Mubarak at an African summit July 27 in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
