Mild Offshore Quake Recorded Near Malibu
A mild earthquake, measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale, rumbled through western Los Angeles County on Sunday afternoon, but officials received no reports of damage from the offshore temblor.
Officials at Caltech in Pasadena said the quake, at 3:55 p.m., occurred on an unknown fault near Malibu, about four miles southeast of Point Dume.
The Los Angeles County sheriff’s station in Malibu received only one call reporting the quake, Deputy Jay Smith said.
Police in Santa Monica said they received no reports of the temblor.
