Iran-Contra Affair Report

By careful perusal of your articles on the final report of the Iran-Contra affair, I was able to save myself about 420 pages of reading. As a lifelong left-leaning Democrat, I expected the majority report to nail anybody who had anything to do with the ridiculous decision to sell arms to Iran. Boy was I wrong!

The report states that in January and August of 1986 Vice President George Bush attended meetings where arms sales to Iran were discussed. At both meetings (former) Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Secretary of State George Shultz were in attendance and both of them expressed their opinions against any such sales. The report then goes on to say that “none of the witnesses recalls the vice president’s position. . . .†Are they kidding me or what?

If I were a Republican (heaven forbid) I would be jumping for joy over the report as it spares, at least for now, the political life of their front-runner. As for me, I don’t need to read another word of it.
