Local News in Brief : Woman Slays Intruder
When a would-be intruder attacked her front door for the second time in two days, a 32-year-old Athens-area woman grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun, fired and killed the man, sheriff deputies said Friday.
Investigators questioned Gloria Toledo, 32, and then released her after hearing her account of the shooting on Raymond Avenue, south of Imperial Highway. The man she shot was a transient, whose identity was withheld.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau said the man had been arrested Wednesday when he tried to break down the same door. Then, shortly after 11 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, witnesses saw someone breaking into the home and heard screams and shots.
The man apparently knew Toledo’s mother, who shared the home, a department spokesman said.
