Jet’s Last Minutes Before Crash
DES PLAINES, Ill. — The pilot of a crippled Air Force jet that crashed into an Indianapolis hotel last month, killing 10 people, asked controllers twice whether there was housing in his path but never received a reply, according to tapes made public today.
The Federal Aviation Administration released tape recordings detailing the final minutes before the tactical jet fighter slammed into the front of the Ramada Inn just outside Indianapolis International Airport on Oct. 20 and burst into flames. Ten people were killed and six others injured. The pilot, Maj. Bruce L. Teagarden, ejected moments before impact and was not seriously injured.
