Stock Market News Transmitter Nosedives
While the stock market remained relatively stable Monday, KWHY Channel 22’s Mt. Wilson transmitter crashed, knocking the station that broadcasts the daily ups and downs of the world’s financial markets off the air before it could begin its broadcast day.
Joel Siebert, operations director at KWHY, said that high winds on the mountain may have caused the technical problems.
Technicians were working on the transmitter and hoped to have it back in operation today for KWHY to go on the air from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. with its regular diet of stock prices and financial news, he said.
Siebert said that the KWHY staff was spending its unexpected free time monitoring events on Wall Street on the station’s in-house ticker and feeding current stock prices to market junkies who jammed the station’s phone lines throughout the morning.
