Florida Probes Reports of Police Shooting Dogs

BLOUNTSTOWN, Fla. — Gov. Bob Martinez on Friday ordered an investigation into reports that Blountstown police officers occasionally shoot stray dogs in violation of Florida’s animal cruelty laws.
State law allows euthanasia of stray animals only by injection of sodium pentobarbital, a powerful tranquilizer, or by carbon monoxide gas. Violation of the law is a first-degree misdemeanor.
