Pasadena : YMCA Seeks Housing Funds
The YMCA and the city Board of Directors will apply for $1.35 million in federal and state funds to save part of the Downtown YMCA building for low-cost housing.
The city has already begun searching for a developer willing to take on a government-subsidized renovation of the building, 235 E. Holly St, where the YMCA rents out 129 rooms.
The cost of buying the property from the YMCA and renovating the building to provide both office space and housing is estimated to be at least $6.6 million, according to the city.
The YMCA needs to sell the building to help fund construction of a new joint YMCA/YWCA facility across the street.
